Hidden Eden Manu National Park

Manu National Park comprises 19,000 KM2 of the best preserve forest in the southeast of Peru since 1977; is also one of the most important conservation units in the world!! The beauty of this trip is the big variety of habitats the traveler experience from upper montane forest laden with delicate orchids and bromeliads to pristine Amazon rainforest. Manu has a list of almost 1000 bird species, the last refuge of the endangered Giant River Otter, 13 primate species, the second largest macaw clay lick and endless areas for forest walks and canopy platforms making this area a naturalist paradise.

Day by Day

Early morning departure to bird the famous Manu Road one of the finest birding roads in the world, selected stops will be made on the way to look for tarjet species like the endemics Creamy-crested Spinetail, Chesnut-breasted Mountain-finch, Bearded Mountaineer and others. High elevation agricultural fields will produce various species of finches and seed-eaater. The scenery is quiet dramatic with great vistas of mountains, small andean communities and flocks of sheep and other livestock. Eventually we we reach the Ajanacu Pass at 12,000 ft here the hábitat change is quiet dramatic with beautiful enfin forest and upper montane forest laden with delicate orchids and bromeliads. This section of the road offers good chances of mixed species flock that could contain Scarlet-bellied, Hooded Mountain-Tanagers, White-collared Jay, Crimson-mantled Woodpecker, Strong-billed Woodcreeper and several others. Afternoon arrival to our comfortable inn at 10,000 ft.
Morning birding around lodge clearing and road before brekfast. We continue our drive to our next location the tropical cloud forest, as we drop in elevation we experience a pretty subtantial change in hábitat and a whole set of new species such as Gray-breasted Mountain Toucan, Barred Fruit-eater, Chenut-crested Cotinga and various others. Afternoon arrival to our next location at 5,000 ft on time to enjoy bird feeders that might content the gorgeous Versicolored Barbet, Golden and  Goldern-eared Tanagers, hummingbird feeders attract Violet-fronted Brilliant, Many-spotted Hummingbird and more. 
Early morning visit to probably the most accesible Andean Cock of the Rock Lek a beautufl dweller of this forest and the national bird of Peru. We hope to spot various males at their morning mating rituals at nearby location. For the rest of day enjoy superb birding with colorful tanagers, hummingbirds, woopecker, furnarids and much more.
We continue our journey in this magnificent park, as we drop in elevation we leave the cloud forest behind to focus on new territory the foothills and its new set of exciting birds such as Golden-bellied Warbler, Golden-collared Honeycreeper, Ornate Flycatcher and others. patches of bamboo offer good chances for Striped-chested Antwren, Warbling Antbird, Bamboo Antshrike, Manu Antbird and various other goodies. Afternoon arrival to our comfortable inn in the foothills. 
Full day exploration of forest trails, time spend looking for bamboo specialties, lodge clearing and gardens, good chances to delight with the cute White-cheeked Tody-tyrant, Flamulated Bamboo-tyrant and various others. 
Early morning birding before breakfast around lodge clearing, breakfast. Enjoy a delightful boat trip on the boat trip on the Upper Mother of God River to our next location, the lowlands of Manu. During our journey good chances to spot river-side species such as Fasciated Tiger-Heron, Kingfishers, Large and Yellow-billed Terns, Horned Screamers, Pied Plover, Collared Plover, the rare Orinoco Goose, the river journey is also good for birds of prey as well as mammals. Middle afternoon arrival tú our next inn  on time to do some late afternoon birding and depending on your energy level and weather conditions some owling. Our inn features comfortable double bungalows with private facilities, hot and cold running water as well as spacious bar and dining areas. 
Full days spend at our inn in the lowlands of Manu, exploring varzea, terra firme and mature transitional flood plain forest with basically mind-boggling variety of birds. Nearby Ox-bow lake teeming with lake-side birdlife will be the place to encounter the very endangered Giant-river Otters as well as Hoatzins, Agami Heron, Pale-eyed Black-bird, Little Cuckoo, Sungrebe to name a few. A morning will be dedicated to visit the Blanquillo Macaw Clay-Lick where nature offers a unique spectable seen by very few, literally hundreds of Blue-headed, Mealy, Yellow-crowned, Orange-cheeked Parrots gather to eat the rich mineral-clay, large macaws join them in the action as the morning warms up all conveniently seen from a blind. Canopy birding offers excellent chances to see birds rarely seen from the forest floor as well as fly overs of colorful macaws, birds of prey and others.
Morning river journey on our comfortable boat leaving this pristine forest behind towards Boca Colorado on time to catch private local transport to reach the city of Puerto Maldonado.
