Apurimac Endemic and Andean Condors

A great way to enjoy a very productive birding day at amazing spots high in the mountains of the Apurimac Canyon. A full day trip that focuses on the little known Apurimac specialties and the Chonta Condor view-point.  Quality time is spend at Mollepata and Soraypampa situated under the towering glaciers of the Salkantay Massif (6,271 masl), the hábitat is quite diverse with andean scrub and puna grasslands where several species of seed-eaters, finches and other can be found. We hope to come across various specialties and endemics.

Full Day

Early start from your hotel, selected stops will be made on the way towards Mollepata where we hope to come across our first birds, we will be in search of the endemics Apurimac Spinetail and Brush-finch, Rusty-fronted Canastero, Creamy-crested Spinetail other beauties include Golden-billed Saltator, Tyrian Metail-tail, Red-crested Cotinga, White-eared Puffbirds and the list goes on. As we reach the plains of Soraypampa we expect to find a variety of finches and seedeaters, Black-chested Buzzard Eagle, Puna Hawk and much more. A short drive will take us to the community of Chonta where we will start an hour and 15 minute walk to the condor look-out on time to see these magnifecent birds returning to their roosting places, time will be available to enjoy and suck in the surrounding beauty with the cristal clear waters of the Apurimac River below us. Afternoon return to Cusco and transfer to your hotel.
