Birding in the Santa Eulalia Valley

Located on the western part of the andes the Santa Eulalia Valley gives us the chance to reach the closest high mountains above Lima, the drive crosses the andean cordillera with amazing mountain vistas and excellent birding opportunities. Various elevations are experienced during this full day with a big diversity of habitats such as montane scrubs, agricultural fields, introduced eucaliptus groves, riparian thickets and fast moving streams. A high concentration of endemic species are found in various segments of the road.

Full Day

Pre-dawn departure from your hotel in order to avoid the chaotic traffic of Lima to start our drive on the dusty but spectacular Santa Eulalia Road, the scenery is simple stunning¡ Selected stops will be made on route to look for the striking endemics Rufous-breasted Warbling-Finch, Great Inca-Finch, Black-necked Woodpecker, Striated Earthcreeper, Thick-billed Miner, Black Metailtail Bronze-tailed Comet and various others. Tall eucaliptus grooves may produce the tiny Peruvian Pygmy-Owl. Other species expected on this route include Giant Hummingbird, White-capped Diper, Bare-faced Ground-Dove, Purple-collared Woodstar, White-browed Chat-Tyrant and if luck is with us the majestic Andean Condor. At this end of this fabulous day we begin our drive back to Lima, upon arrival transfer to your hotel.
